I’m sitting in my studio and office at home listening to Leo Radio on Leo Windham.com. Only a few days until Christmas and my family carries on the tradition of spending Christmas Eve at Windham’s Crossroads outside of Lamar, South Carolina. That’s right, there really is a Windham’s Crossroads and as long as I can remember, the Windham family has gathered there at Christmas Eve. Family traditions are important. It gives us a good reason to get together. My late father, Woodrow Windham, prepared the homemade eggnog, and cousins, aunts, uncles and neighbors would make it a point to stop by for a toast and a taste, or two, of the nog. My brother Jim carries on the tradition and I must say, it’s pretty good. Everyone in my family is invited, but my sister ,Mary, and her family usually don’t make it because they live in Pennsylvania. My brother, Woody, usually brings his guitar and we sing Christmas carols with the kids as we open presents. It really is a great time and we all cherish the time. My mother, Sarah, will cook the fresh ham, like she always does. By the way, she’s 87. We’ll all bring other dishes and believe me the food is great. It’s just a family tradition that we all know will end some day. But, until that day comes, I’ll be driving home for Christmas Eve. I hope you have traditions in your family that you enjoy as much as I do. Merry Christmas and Happy New year.
